How to tie a bowtie

I’ve taken to wearing bowties, of late. Of course, a clip-on is just out of the question. It’s taken me forever, but I can finally tie a bowtie without having to look at instructions every time. It’s actually just like tying your shoes.

If you’re doing it for the first time, practise tying it on your leg a few times first before you go to the mirror to do it. I like to leave my bowties looking a bit scruffy and uneven — I think it’s the naughty schoolboy in me.

I am so excited about this film coming out. Who wouldn’t be? Wes Anderson’s upcoming film adaption of Roald Dahl’s kids classic looks amazing! The dapper Mr. Fox, voiced by George Clooney, steals food from farmers to feed his family. But the baddy farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean will stop at nothing to catch him. Watch the trailer here. The Fantastic Mr Fox opens 13 November 2009.

The Glorious First

Today pheasant season officially opens in England. Celebrate with a cup of warm bullshot, the traditional shooting pick-me-up.

Bullshot

4 shots of a good vodka
250ml beef bouillon (or consommé, if you have some handy)
4-5 dashes of Tabasco sauce, to taste
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 lime, juiced
1 teaspoon celery salt
Black pepper, to taste

Bring the bouillon to a gentle boil, then stir in the rest of the ingredients and pour into a thermos. It’s particularly delicious from a traditional hunting flask.
